RALEIGH – NC State women's soccer is set to open its season Thursday when it travels to ninth-ranked Georgetown. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. at Shaw Field in Washington, D.C., and the match will be streamed via FloSports ($).
SERIES HISTORY
Thursday will be the fourth overall meeting between the Wolfpack and Hoyas, as Georgetown owns a 2-1 advantage in the all-time series.
The teams last met on Aug. 25, 2019, and NC State earned a 3-1 win. This will be NC State's third time since 2014 traveling to the nation's capital for a matchup with the Hoyas.
WOLFPACK-GEORGETOWN CONNECTION
NC State assistant coach Steve McKenna will be a familiar face for the Hoyas Thursday, as he served as an assistant at Georgetown in 2013.
PRESEASON TUNE UP
The Wolfpack played a pair of exhibition matches in the preseason against Coastal Carolina and No. 12 West Virginia.
NC State earned a 3-1 win over the Chanticleers at home on August 7, then battled to a 1-1 (no OT) draw with the Mountaineers in Blacksburg, Va. Freshman Annika Wohner was responsible for three of the team's four goals scored in the preseason.
2021 FALL SLATE
Thursday's matchup will mark the first of seven teams on NC State's regular-season schedule that will start the year nationally-ranked on TopDrawerSoccer and United Soccer Coaches' preseason polls.
2021 FALL ROSTER
This year's roster is comprised of 26 players. Just 14 of them have at least one semester of collegiate experience, as head coach Tim Santoro and his staff brought in a strong freshman class this fall. Three of those players were early enrollees in the spring and unable to play in NCAA competition, while the nine others just recently arrived in Raleigh for their first semester.
