TOKYO – Noe Ponti became the second member of the NC State swimming diving program to swim in a 2020 Olympics final as he competed with Switzerland's sixth-place 4x200-meter freestyle relay squad on Tuesday night.
The relay marked Ponti's first-ever finals appearance in what is his debut Olympic Games berth.

Ponti and his relay squad clocked in at 7:06.12 to place sixth and establish a new Swiss record. His 1:46.63 third leg moved Switzerland from eighth place to seventh place and set them up for the final 200 meters. The team swam back-to-back national records as they went 7:06.59 in the prelims to earn a spot in the finals where that time was lowered even further.
Wednesday's prelims will be a busy session for the Wolfpack. Sophie Hansson and Andrea Podmanikova will compete in the 200-meter breaststroke for their second individual event of the meet, and alumnus Andreas Vazaios will swim the 200-meter individual medley in his third career Olympics. The session is set for a 6 a.m. start and will be aired live on USA Network.
