NC State Finishes in Top-25 in Learfield Director’s Cup Standings

Pack’s finish of 23rd is second-best all-time
RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State Athletics posted its second-highest finish in school history in the Learfield Directors' Cup, as the Wolfpack placed 23rd nationally for the 2021-21 academic year. Fourteen squads scored points in the final rankings, with six top-10 finishes and three top-three showings.
The only higher final ranking was 15th in 2017-18.
Here are all the Wolfpack teams that scored points in 2020-21:
FALL (143.0 points)
• Women's Cross Country – 2nd
he Wolfpack women posted a second-place finish at the Championship, tying the team's highest-ever finish. The placement is the highest by an NC State women's cross country squad since the 2001 season. Three members of the women's squad posted All-American performances, and that number ties the program record for the most women's All-Americans in a single season.
• Men's Cross Country – 23rd
NC State's men recorded a 23rd-place finish, improving from 27th place in 2019.
• Football – 37th
The Wolfpack set a new school record with seven wins over ACC opponents, facing five ranked teams overall, and earned a bid to the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl.
WINTER (401.75 points)
• Women's Swimming & Diving – 2nd
The women of NC State swimming and diving secured the best NCAA Championships finish in program history, as the team placed as the runner-up at the 2021 national meet. The Pack had two relay titles and three individual titles during its record-setting NCAA Championships run. Including its five national titles, the Pack garnered 20 individual All-America citations, and four NC State relay squads were cited with All-America honors at the 2021 NCAA Championships.
• Wrestling – 6th
Behind a program-tying four All-Americans, including an NCAA Finalist and 3rd place finisher, the NC State wrestling team came home with a sixth place finish at the 2021 NCAA Championships. The sixth place finish marked the second-best finish in school history.
• Men's Swimming & Diving – 8th
The NC State men's swimming and diving program wrapped up its 2020-21 campaign with an eighth-place team finish at the NCAA Championships. The Pack garnered six individual All-America citations, and five NC State relay squads were cited with All-America honors.
• Women's Basketball – 9th
For the first time in 26 NCAA Tournament berths in program history, the NC State women's basketball team earned the No. 1 seed. The Pack advanced to the Sweet 16 for the third straight season.
• Gymnastics – 13th
The Wolfpack became the first team in NCAA history (since the current format was adopted in the 2018-19 season) to achieve a Regional Final berth after beginning Regionals action in the First Round with its second-place finish in the Second Round.
• Women's Indoor Track & Field – 24th
The Pack competed in four events and collected six First Team All-American honors.
SPRING (238.5 points)
• Women's Tennis – 3rd
The Wolfpack's appearance in the Final Four is the deepest run the squad has ever made at the NCAA Championships and was its first season advancing past the Round of 16.
• Men's Tennis – 17th
The Pack earned a bid to the NCAA Tennis Championships for the third straight year, and advanced to the second round in 2021.
• Men's Golf – 20th
The Pack advanced to the NCAA Championship for the first time since 2018, after placing fourth at the NCAA Regional.
• Women's Outdoor Track & Field – 26th
Elly Henes brought home the first national title of her career in any event with her win in the 5000m final, the first member of the Wolfpack women's program to win an individual national title in any event since 2002
• Baseball –The Pack swept all three games at the NCAA Regionals, downed #1 overall seed Arkansas in the best-of-3 Super Regional, and won a pair of games in the College World Series. Any NCAA team that qualified but was unable to compete in any portion of the postseason was given five points.
