RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State men's golf coach Press McPhaul announced Friday that Tim Bunten and Brandon Einstein will play for the men's golf team in the upcoming 2021-22 season.
"Adding two guys with the experience and skill of Tim and Brandon can be a difference maker for our team," McPhaul said. "They bring experience and hunger to compete for the ACC and NCAA titles. We are grateful to have them joining NC State. Go Pack!"
Bunten joins NC State from East Carolina. The Cannon, N.C., native was a four-time American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team member and was a Golf Coaches Association of America All-America Scholar as a junior in the 2019-20 season. He played in six events last season and compiled a scoring average of 74.56. He tied for 19th at the American Athletic Conference Championship and had a season-best eighth-place finish at the ECU Intercollegiate.
Einstein comes to the Pack from High Point University and has two seasons of eligibility remaining. The Clemmons, N.C., native is coming off one of the most successful seasons in High Point history. He was named a PING All-Region golfer by the GCAA in May and was the first golfer on the men's or women's side to be named an All-Region golfer in High Point's Division I history.
He qualified for the 2021 NCAA Regional as an individual and finished in a tie for 24th place. Einstein finished the year with a scoring average of 70.96 to become the first student-athlete in HPU golf history to average sub-71 in a single season. He totaled three wins on the season to tie for the most individual wins in a single year in program history. His winning score of 208 at the Old Corkscrew Intercollegiate is tied for the eighth-lowest 54-hole score in program history. With Einstein's 70 in the second round of the NCAA Regionals, he finished the year with 18 rounds of par or better in 2021 for the most of any HPU golfer in a single season.
