RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State softball program has announced the addition of Ketarah DeVries as an assistant coach. DeVries was a standout pitcher under NC State head coach Jennifer Patrick-Swift at St. Francis (Pa.), and will take over the duties as the primary pitching coach at NC State.
Â
"Ketarah is someone our coaching staff has a long history with as she was in the circle as a key part of turning around our program at Saint Francis University," said Patrick-Swift. "While I was coaching her back then, I knew that she would make an exceptional coach one day. Having watched her blossom in coaching over the past few years has certainly made me proud and is something that our pitching staff will benefit from.
Â
"She understands the importance of continuing to develop pitchers strengths while also working to improve each of them individually. She is vested in the development process of each pitcher and the staff, but is also equally vested in her staff as people which is truly where the development process begins."
Â
DeVries comes to NC State following two seasons at Seton Hall and the previous two seasons at Bucknell where she has coached 11 all-conference honorees, three NFCA All-Region selections and earned 2019 Coaching Staff of the Year honors. In her first season at Bucknell, DeVries coached Raeanne Geffert to First Team All-Conference selection after a season with a 2.07 ERA in 192.1 innings with 153 strikeouts. Â
Â
As a player, DeVries was a standout pitcher for Saint Francis. She was a First Team All-Conference pitcher in 2016 and 2017, paving the way for the program's first NEC championship as a team captain in 2017. DeVries holds the Red Flash school record for career wins with 52 and ranks second with 447 career strikeouts on the way to helping Saint Francis go 29-3 in conference games her final two seasons.
