Henes Garners ACC Outdoor Track Performer of the Year Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Redshirt senior Elly Henes has been named ACC Women's Track Performer of the Year, as announced by the conference office on Wednesday.
Henes is the first student-athlete in program history to attain both ACC Indoor Track Performer of the Year and ACC Outdoor Track Performer of the Year honors in the same season. She is additionally the first competitor in Wolfpack history to be named ACC Outdoor Women's Track Performer of the Year.
Henes capped off an incredible college career with a win in the 5000m at the 2021 NCAA Championships, becoming the Wolfpack's first individual title winner in any event since 2002. The title additionally made her the first champion in the women's 5000m since her mother and current head coach Laurie Henes won the crown in 1991. With the win, she earned the first outdoor First Team All-America honors of her career.
During the season, the Cary, N.C., native ran a top-12 time in collegiate history in the 5000m posting a 15:18.75 in the event at the West Coast Relays. The mark was a personal best in addition to a school record and was, at the time, the 10th-best mark in NCAA outdoor history.
The 2021 ACC Championships saw a pair of podium finishes for Henes as she placed third in the 1500m and took the ACC title in the 5000m for the second time of her career. Each placement was good for First Team All-ACC honors.
