TEMPE, Ariz. - Graduated fifth year Alexis Galarneau has been named ITA Carolina Region Most Improved Senior and ITA Carolina Region Senior Player of the Year, as announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) on Monday.
The Senior Player of the Year honor marks the first time since 2016 that an NC State senior has garnered the award, and the Most Improved Senior accolades are NC State's second in three years (Igor Saveljic earned the honor in 2019).
Galarneau recorded an impressive final season with NC State, earning a 10-3 dual match singles record in addition to a 9-6 dual match doubles record. The Laval, Canada, native took down seven nationally-ranked singles opponents, including three competitors ranked in the top 25.
His career culminated in the deepest NCAA Singles Championships run by a member of the Wolfpack in over 10 years. He defeated the then-15th-ranked player in the nation in the first round before taking down the then-42nd-ranked competitor in the second round, sending him to the Round of 16 and earning him the second ITA All-America honors of his career.
The fifth year collected All-American honors in 2020, and his 2021 laurels made him the third competitor in Wolfpack history to be an All-American twice.
Galarneau earned All-ACC accolades each year of his career that the honors were awarded, tabbing Second Team All-ACC recognition as a freshman and registering First Team honors for his final three years. When he earned the laurels in 2021, he became only the second player in program history to garner All-ACC status four times.
In the record book, Galarneau ranks ninth in program history in career singles victories with 77, and he places sixth in NC State history in career doubles victories with 70.
Galarneau will be in contention for the national editions of the awards that are set to be released Monday, June 21.
