RALEIGH – NC State women's basketball center Elissa Cunane has been named to the 2021 CoSIDA Academic All-District Women's Basketball Team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America organization on Thursday afternoon.
Cunane is one of a total of six women who were named First Team honorees from District 3, which includes NCAA Division I schools from North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. She is the first All-District honoree for the Pack since 2017.
A native of Summerfield, N.C., Cunane maintains a 3.34 cumulative grade point average while majoring in Fisheries, Wildlife & Conservation Biology. She is a two-time All-ACC Academic Team honoree (2019, 2021) and has been named to the Dean's List each of the last two semesters. The Wolfpack junior is also extremely involved in the NC State and Raleigh community, as she volunteers at the local food bank, mentors middle school students and helps lead the Pack United initiative that fights for social justice and equity.
On the court, Cunane has put together a decorated career in her three completed seasons as a member of the Wolfpack women's basketball squad. She was honored as a 2021 All-American by ESPN (First Team), the Associated Press (Second Team) and the U.S. Basketball Writers Association (Second Team) after averaging 16.3 points, 8.3 rebounds and 53.3 percent from the field this past season. In addition, Cunane was a top five finalist for the 2021 Lisa Leslie Award, a semifinalist for 2021 Naismith Player of the Year and was named 2021 ACC Tournament MVP.
For her career, Cunane averages 15.3 points, 8.0 rebounds and 54.4 percent shooting. She has compiled 1,362 career points and 712 career rebounds.
With the recognition, Cunane is now eligible for consideration for CoSIDA Academic All-America honors, with those teams set to be announced at the end of May. NC State women's basketball has earned a total of eight Academic All-America citations in program history, with the last one coming in 2014 when Kody Burke was honored as a member of the First Team.
