No. 23 #Pack9 Clinches Series With 6-4 Win Over No. 9 Florida State

RALEIGH – No. 23 NC State baseball (28-14, 19-13 ACC) picked up its fourth-straight series win and sixth of the season on Friday night at Doak Field at Dail Park as it defeated No. 9 Florida State (28-21, 19-16 ACC), 6-4.
The Wolfpack extended its win streak to seven, which is its longest streak of the 2021 campaign, and has won 12 of its last 13. It has additionally earned five consecutive wins over top 20 opponents.
The Seminoles got on the board in the first, plating two runs on three hits and an error. Tyler Martin led off with a base hit, and after a stolen base and sac bunt put him at third he scored on a wild pitch. Matheu Nelson reached on a two-base error, and then back-to-back singles by Robby Martin and Elijah Cabell drove him home.
Despite being in an early deficit the Pack managed to tie it up in just two at-bats in its half of the first, as Austin Murr led off with a single up the middle and then Tyler McDonough belted his team-leading 13th home run of the year to right field to knot the score at two.
FSU took a 3-2 lead in the third when Logan Lacey roped a one-out double down the left field line and then scored on Nelson's single through the left side. The Pack responded once again in its half of the third to tie it up at three when McDonough and Jonny Butler reached on a hit-by-pitch and outfield single, respectively, then pulled off the double steal at the corners.
NC State gave itself a two-run 5-3 lead in the fifth when Murr crossed home plate on a bases-loaded wild pitch, and then McDonough scored from third on Terrell Tatum's two-out single to the shortstop.
McDonough scored his fourth run of the night in the seventh, as he drew a leadoff walk, advanced to third on Butler's hard-hit infield single, and then scored on Luca Tresh's RBI groundout.
The Seminoles tried to rally in the ninth when Jackson Greene hit a leadoff homer to left field to make it 6-4, but the spark wasn't enough to even the series.

- Butler turned in his 10th consecutive multi-hit game as he went 4-for-4 at the plate, which matches his career best for a single game.

- Tatum and Murr also turned in multi-hit performances as Tatum went 2-for-4 and Murr went 2-for-5.
- Starting pitcher Sam Highfill (5-2) tossed six strong innings and allowed just two earned runs to score. He yielded one walk, scattered eight hits and struck out six batters.
- Evan Justice tallied his team-leading seventh save of the year as he threw the final two innings of the game. He ranks second among the ACC with his seven saves in conference-only games.
- NC State has hit at least one home run in 33 of 42 games this year.
