GREENSBORO, N.C. – Following outstanding seasons, Melissa Evans and Jade Parchment have been named to the All-ACC Volleyball team, as announced by the Atlantic Coast Conference Monday afternoon. The pair is a part of the 28-person team which includes representatives from nine different schools. Seven of the nine schools, including NC State, are represented by multiple players.
Evans was named to the First Team after two-consecutive second team selections her sophomore and junior season. She becomes the first player in NC State volleyball history to earn four All-ACC honors, after also being named to the All-Freshman team in 2017. Parchment was named to the Second Team, marking the first All-Conference honor of her career.
It is the 13th time in program history the Wolfpack have placed multiple student-athletes on the All-ACC team.
Evans had an exceptional season, averaging 3.97 kills per set which ranks second in the rally scoring era of the program. Evans expanded her range throughout the 2020-21 season, becoming a six-rotation player and registering seven double-double performances. She had double-digit kills in 12 of the team's 17 matches, including three 20+ kill performances, twice setting a career-high of 24. Evans also made history this season, moving into ninth all-time with 1,189 career kills. Additionally, that mark ranks second in the rally scoring era, behind Julia Brown who played from 2014-17 and had 1,368. Evans also averaged 2.5 digs per set and 0.53 blocks this season while recording 13 service aces.
Evans eclipsed her 1,000 career kill mark earlier this season against North Carolina, becoming the fourth active ACC player to do so. She joins Pitt's Kayla Lund and Florida State's Taryn Knuth as the only current players to receive four All-ACC honors. Evans was also named a Senior CLASS Award Candidate earlier this season for her stellar work in the community and the classroom.
Parchment's honor comes after a top-10 mark in the ACC with 3.78 kills per set. The junior had 14 double-digit kill matches, including eight in a row. She twice set her career-high of 23 against Wake Forest and Virginia, doing so on .422 and .311 hitting percentages, respectively. Parchment led the Wolfpack with 15 service aces and also averaged 2.12 digs per set. She has 810 career kills, ranking ninth in the rally scoring era of the program.
Parchment was named ACC Player of the Week on Nov. 3, after helping the Wolfpack sweep Virginia Tech. In those matches, Parchment averaged 5.17 kills per set and 3.33 digs per set on a .441 hitting percentage.
The attacking duo of Evans and Parchment was unstoppable, as NC State joined Georgia Tech and Pitt as the only school to have two players in the top-10 kills per set. NC State finished the season 8-9 (7-9 ACC) under the direction of first year head coach, Luka Slabe, and looks to return a majority of its roster for the 2021 season.
