Pack in Second Place After Two Rounds at ACC Championship

Benjamin Shipp leads the field after shooting a score of eight-under par on Friday

ATLANTA – Benjamin Shipp leads the field and NC State is in second place as a team after two rounds of play at the ACC Championship held at Capital City Club on Friday.
Shipp shot an opening round of six-under par 64 on Friday morning and followed up with a 68 in the afternoon to hold a one-shot lead with one round remaining.
Shipp's first round score of 64 is the lowest 18-hole score in program history in the ACC Championship and his score of six-under par is tied for the second-best 18-hole score related to par in program history in the ACC Championship.
The Duluth, Ga., is one round away from becoming the first NC State golfer since Matt Hill in 2009 to win the ACC individual championship.
As a team, the Pack is in second place with one round remaining.
For the first time in ACC Championship history, the top four teams after 54 holes of play will advance to match play to determine the ACC team champion. While the Pack trails North Carolina by nine shots for the lead, NC State has built 14-shot lead on fifth place and currently would advance to match play on Sunday.
North Carolina leads the field at 21-under par. The Pack is second, nine shots back of the Tar Heels. Clemson is third, three shots back of NC State and Florida State is in fourth nine shots back of the Pack.
Wake Forest is currently in fifth place and the first team out from advancing to match play. The Demon Deacons trail Florida State for fourth place by five shots.
Christian Salzer is tied for seventh on the individual leaderboard at three-under par through 36 holes. The NC State graduate led the Pack with a four-under par 66 in the second round on Friday afternoon.
Carter Graf and Maximilian Steinlechner are tied for 20th place at even-par. Graf shot a two-under par 68 in the first round while Steinlechner went one-under par with a 69 in the second round.
Easton Paxton rounds out the NC State lineup in a tie for 32nd place at one-over par for the tourney.
With inclement weather forecasted for the Atlanta are on Saturday, tee times were moved up an hour and the third and final round will start at 7:30 a.m. with groups teeing off from holes 1 and 10.
