LEXINGTON, Ky. – Melissa Evans and Jade Parchment received American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Region honors, as announced Tuesday morning. Evans was named to the East All-Region team, while Parchment received honorable mention recognition.
It is the first time since 2017 NC State has placed multiple student-athletes on the All-Region team and the 16 and 17th selections, all-time. It is the first honor for both Evans and Parchment. The East All-Region team is made up of 14 athletes with an additional six earning Honorable Mention accolades.
Earlier this month, Evans became the first NC State player to received four All-ACC honorees. She picked up First Team selections for the first time in her career after earning second team selections her sophomore and junior season, in addition to All-Freshman accolades in 2017.
Evans averaged 3.97 kills per set, which ranks second in the rally scoring era of the program. She expanded her range throughout the 2020-21 season, becoming a six-rotation player and registering seven double-double performances for NC State. Evans registered double-digit kills in 12 of the team's 17 matches, including three 20+ kill performances. She made history this season, moving into ninth all-time at NC State with 1,189 career kills. Evans also averaged 2.5 digs per set and 0.53 blocks this season, while recording 13 service aces.
During the 2020-21 season, Evans eclipsed her 1,000 career kill mark and was also named a Senior CLASS Award Candidate for her stellar work in the community and the classroom.
Parchment's honor comes after a top-10 mark in the ACC with 3.78 kills per set. The junior had 14 double-digit kill matches, including eight in a row. She twice set her career-high of 23 against Wake Forest and Virginia, doing so on .422 and .311 hitting percentages, respectively.
