RALEIGH, N.C.. – After two walk off home runs, Sam Russ earned a pair of Player of the Week honors Tuesday afternoon. Russ was named ACC Softball Player of the Week, in addition to earning Player of the Week honors from D1Softball.
Russ led the Wolfpack with a monster .533 batting average in last weekend's series win against Georgia Tech. Her weekend included two walk-off home runs on back-to-back days that launched her to a 1.000 slugging percentage and .588 on-base percentage in the series. She recorded multiple hits in all four games over the weekend, including a 2-for-3 performance in the series finale. Russ was also a perfect 6-for-6 on stolen bases.
The series win over Georgia Tech made it the fifth-straight ACC series win for the Wolfpack, the best active mark in the conference.
The junior currently ranks second in the ACC in home runs per game and is tied for the NC State lead with five. Russ leads the ACC in runs per game with 1.21 and is third in stolen bases per game (0.86). A 2019 Second-Team All-ACC selection, Russ is batting .367 this season, a mark that goes up to .444 against ACC opponents.
Russ and the Wolfpack are scheduled to take on #16/15 Virginia Tech this weekend at Dail Softball Stadium for a four games series, March 12-14. Three of the four games will be on ACC Network, with the remaining game available on ACCNX.
