Wolfpack center honored as finalist for second season in a row
ATLANTA – NC State women's basketball center Elissa Cunane has been named a regional finalist for the 2021 Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) All-America Team, as announced by the organization on Wednesday.
Cunane has been named a finalist for the team two seasons in a row, and she is one of 52 candidates receiving consideration for the honors this year after she earned honorable mention status in 2020.
The Wolfpack junior added to an already-lengthy list of postseason honors. Cunane has already garnered All-America recognition from ESPN (First Team) and the Associated Press (Second Team). In addition, she was named ACC Tournament MVP and First Team All-ACC. Cunane is also one of five finalists for the 2021 Lisa Leslie Award that recognizes the top center in women's NCAA Division I basketball and is one of 15 players on the Women's National Ballot for the 2021 John. R. Wooden Award that honors the Player of the Year.
Cunane is putting up season averages of 16.3 points, 8.1 rebounds, 54.1 percent shooting (124-of-229), 84.7 from the charity stripe (100-of-118) and 1.6 assists per game. Her field-goal percentage is ranked 23rd nationally.
The Summerfield, N.C., native is the leading scorer and the anchor of the Pack's four-out, one-in system. She has scored in double figures in all but one game this season, with six 20+ point outings and six double-doubles on the year.
The 2021 WBCA NCAA Division I Coaches' All-America Team will be announced on Saturday, April 3. The selection committee will choose 10 players from the 52 regional finalists.
