Pack Men Place Fifth in 800 Free Relay to Open NCAA Championships

GREENSBORO, N.C. – NC State's men's swimmers kicked off their 2021 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships journey with a fifth-place finish in the 800-yard freestyle on Wednesday night.
Swimming at the Greensboro Aquatic Center, the Pack's relay squad of Luke Miller, Eric Knowles, Erge Gezmis and Hunter Tapp combined for a time of 6:12.08, which was a season best for the team.
Swimming in the penultimate heat, NC State led from start to finish in its group after Miller opened with a 1:32.55 split to put the squad in front. Knowles went 1:33.10, followed by Gezmis in 1:33.97. Tapp then closed out the heat win with a split of 1:32.44 that put the Pack in fifth overall after the final heat.
The Pack resumes action with a full day of NCAA Championships competition on Thursday. Prelims are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m., with finals slated for 6 p.m. Both sessions will be aired live on ESPN3.
