Three from Pack Athletics Earn ACC Postgraduate Scholarships

RALEIGH, N.C. – A pair of swimmers from NC State Athletics have been selected as 2021 Weaver-James-Corrigan Postgraduate Scholarship Award recipients, and the starting goalie from the men's soccer team has been recognized with the Thacker Award as announced by the Atlantic Coast Conference.
The Weaver-James-Corrigan and Jim and Pat Thacker postgraduate scholarships are awarded to selected student-athletes who intend to pursue a graduate degree following completion of their undergraduate requirements. Each recipient will receive $6,000 toward his or her graduate education. Those honored have performed with distinction in both the classroom and their respective sport, while demonstrating exemplary conduct in the community.
• Kate Moore, Swimming & Diving
An industrial engineering major, Moore is a six-time All-American on the Wolfpack's swimming & diving squad and a two-time ACC individual champion. In the classroom, she is a three-time CSCAA Scholar All-American, and a two-time Academic All-ACC selection.
• Makayla Sargent, Swimming & Diving
A psychology major, Sargent is a three-time All-American on the Wolfpack's swimming & diving squad. In the classroom, she is a 2020 CoSIDA Academic All-American, a two-time CSCAA Scholar All-American, and two-time Academic All-ACC selection. She currently swims professionally for the LA Current of the International Swimming League.
• Leon Krapf, Men's Soccer
A business administration major, Krapf was one of three in the ACC to win the Thacker Award. The starting goalkeeper on the men's soccer team, Krapf has 18 career shutouts (fourth in program history) and a career GAA of 1.15 (tied for first in program history). He is a two-time All-ACC Academic Team selection, and is both NC State's SAAC President and the ACC's SAAC representative on the NCAA committee. Krapf is currently enrolled in NC State's Masters of Accounting (MAC) program to earn his graduate degree.
About the Thacker Award
The Thacker Award, which originated in 2005, is awarded in honor of the late Jim and Pat Thacker of Charlotte, North Carolina. Jim Thacker was the primary play-by-play announcer for the ACC's first television network. Recipients of the award must demonstrate outstanding performance both in athletic competition and in the classroom and intend to further their education through postgraduate studies at an ACC institution.
