Pack Wins General Hackler Championship

NC State had all five individuals place in the top-25 of 90-player field

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The NC State men's golf team won the V1 Sports General Hackler Championship held at The Dunes Golf & Beach Club by eight shots as tournament play concluded on Tuesday.
The Pack built a 10-shot lead on the field after two rounds of play and on a rainy and windy day, no team was able to make a charge as NC State maintained a comfortable lead on the field throughout the final round.

The win is the fourth team win for the Pack under head coach Press McPhaul. McPhaul is in his fourth year as head coach of NC State and has won at least one team title each season as head coach.

The win at the General Hackler is the first team win for the Pack away from its home club Lonnie Poole Golf Course since NC State won the Golfweek Conference Challenge in Cedar Rapids, Iowa in September 2017.

North Florida finished in second place with Louisville taking third and North Carolina finished in fourth.

Max Steinlechner led NC State with a fourth place finish. After back-to-back rounds of five-under par 67s on the first two days, the Austria native shot a 76 on Tuesday to finish the tournament at six-under par.
The fourth place finish is the second consecutive top-five finish for the sophomore. He finished in a tie for second place at Pinehurst two weeks ago.

Christian Salzer was next for the Pack in seventh place. The NC State graduate improved every round during the tournament as his final round score of two-under par 70 was the best of the day for the Pack. Salzer finished the tournament with a three-round total of two-under par.
Salzer's seventh place finish was his best finish of the season.

Easton Paxton was next for the Pack in a tie for 11th. Paxton finished the tournament at even-par and has now finished 21st or better in all four tournaments this spring.

Carter Graf had three solid rounds for NC State as he finished the tournament in a tie for 17th place at two-over par. The 17th-place finish was the second-best finish of the sophomore's career with the Pack.

Benjamin Shipp rounded out the NC State lineup in a tie for 25th place. The Duluth, Ga., native finished with a three-round total of four-over par.

Ethan Choi, playing unattached and making his collegiate debut in this tournament, finished in tie for 81st place.

The Pack has a quick turnaround for its next tournament as it will begin play Friday at the Schenkel Invitational in Statesboro, Ga.
