
Wolfpack Women Claim Second-Place Finish at NCAA Championships; Men Take Home 23rd

STILLWATER, OKLA. - The NC State cross country teams concluded their 2020 season at the NCAA Cross Country Championships on Monday, both posting top-25 finishes at the meet.
The Wolfpack women posted a second-place finish at the Championship, scoring 161 points and tying the team's highest-ever finish. The placement is the highest by an NC State women's cross country squad since the 2001 season.
NC State's men recorded a 23rd-place finish with 547 points, improving from 27th place in 2019.
ALL-AMERICANS
Three members of the women's squad posted All-American performances. The number ties the program record for the most women's All-Americans in a single season and marks the first time since 2001 that three members of the team have earned the honors.
Senior Hannah Steelman earned the second All-Americas honors of her career with a fifth-place after tabbing the laurels in 2019 while she was at Wofford.

Sophomore Kelsey Chmiel garnered All-American status for the second time as well, placing 10th overall.

The third All-American for NC State was Katelyn Tuohy, and the freshman's 24th-place finish was the top placement by a freshman at the meet. Tuohy additionally was the only freshman to garner All-American honors.

WOMEN'S 6K RECAP
Two members of the Wolfpack finished in the top 10, and NC State was one of only two schools at the meet to accomplish more than one finisher in the top 10.
Steelman paced the Wolfpack with her fifth-place finish and time of 20:14.9. She was never lower than eighth place in during the race.
Chmiel improved on her performance from 2019, taking ninth place in 20:26.4. She also remained near the front through the competition, never falling below 17th.
Tuohy joined NC State's lineup for the first time of her career and was the top freshman finisher from any team in 24th place. The freshman ran a 20:41.3, and her All-America honors mark the second consecutive season that an NC State freshman has garnered the laurels.
Dominique Clairmonte scored for the Wolfpack, finishing in 63rd with a mark of 21:12.9 while Savannah Shaw tabbed a 98th-place finish (21:29.2) as NC State's final scorer.
Mariah Howlett competed at the meet as well, posting a 21:44.5 for 130th. Julia Zachgo rounded out the Wolfpack's competitors as she ran a 22:48.7 for 226th.
MEN'S 10K RECAP
Senior Ian Shanklin was NC State's top finisher on the men's side, running a 31:02.9 for a 54th-place finish. He was followed in the scoring by Hannes Burger in 86th place (31:24.1).
Nate Kawalec scored for NC State as well, running a 32:06.7 for 142nd place.
The Wolfpack's fourth scorer was Ian Harrison (177th, 32:33.1), and the scoring was rounded out by Gavin Gaynor's 32:37.5 (184th).
Joe Bistritz saw action at the meet as well, running a 32:51.0 and finished 201st.
