Pack Tracks
- NC State dropped a 64-57 decision to 14th-ranked Virginia on Wednesday night inside of PNC Arena. Jericole Hellems was the only NC State player to reach double figures as the junior scored 23 points on 9-of-15 shooting.
- Hellems has stepped up for the Pack since Devon Daniels tore his ACL in the second half of the win over Wake Forest on Jan. 27. In the first game without Daniels, Hellems registered his first career double-double with career-highs in points (24) and rebounds (10) against Syracuse on Jan. 31. In the two games since Daniels was injured, Hellems is averaging 23.5 points on 52.9% shooting (18-of-34) and 7.5 -rebounds per game.
- The Pack will play the rest of the season without senior guard Devon Daniels. Daniels was the team leader in points (16.5), assists (3.1) and steals (1.7) when he went down with a torn ACL. He was also tied for the team-lead with 19 three-pointers this season. His field goal percentage of 48.1 ranks ninth in the ACC and he ranked third in the team in rebounding at 5.1 per game.
- Manny Bates posted his second career double-double with 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting and a career-high 14 rebounds against Syracuse on Jan. 31. The ACC's blocked shots leader added four blocks against the Orange.
- NC State leads the ACC in turnovers forced (16.57) and is second in the league in steals (9.00) and turnover margin (+3.93). The Pack has had 10 or more steals in six games this season, including 18 against Charleston Southern, which was the most under Kevin Keatts.
Earlier meeting this season
- NC State held off a Boston College rally to win, 79-76, on Dec. 30 inside PNC Arena.
- The Pack led by as many as 15 points in the first half and for over 36 minutes of game time, but found itself trailing 76-75 with 1:30 to go after a Wynston Tabb three-pointer.
- Freshman guard Shakeel Moore put NC State back in front with a jumper from the top of the key with 26 seconds to play. On the ensuing defensive possession, Devon Daniels forced a held ball that gave NC State the possession. Boston College elected not to foul right away, trying for a steal, but Thomas Allen found a streaking Moore and the freshman guard slammed home the final points of the game.
- D.J. Funderburk led the Pack with 21 points on 8-of-10 shooting. Junior forward Jericole Hellems added 20 points while Devon Daniels (12) and Shakeel Moore (12) also reached double digits for the Pack.
Saturday Storylines
- NC State is still trying to find the right combination of players this season, in large part due to two program stops that have led to a total of seven canceled or postponed games. NC State has only had three players (Thomas Allen, Jericole Hellems, Shakeel Moore) on its 14-man roster appear in every game this season. The Pack has had nine different starting lineup combinations in 14 games this season and has had at least one change in the starting five for eight straight games. In the 2018-19 season, the Pack played 36 games and only had seven different starting lineup combinations the entire season. Last season in 32 games, NC State had 10 different starting lineup combinations in 32 games.
- Force at least 15 turnovers. When NC State forces an opponent into 15 or more turnovers this season the Pack is 7-1. When its opponent has less than 15 turnovers, NC State is 0-6.
- Senior guard Braxton Beverly has played six times against Boston College in his career. In 182 minutes against BC, Beverly has only four turnovers (1 turnover every 45.5 minutes played) and has hit 13 three-pointers against the Eagles.
