Fifth-year senior remains perfect in singles action this season
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Anna Rogers of the 12th-ranked NC State women's tennis team has been named ACC Women's Tennis Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon.
It marks the third time in her five-year career that Rogers has garnered the award and her first time since April 9, 2019.
The Stamford, Conn., native went unbeaten in both singles and doubles action on the weekend to help the Wolfpack to team victories over Old Dominion and No. 21 Tennessee. Rogers maintained her perfect singles record on the season, improving to 10-0 overall and 5-0 over nationally-ranked opponents.
Rogers, who is 35th nationally in the individual rankings, did not drop a set in singles action on Friday and Saturday. She kicked off her weekend by defeating Old Dominion's 40th-ranked Holly Hutchinson 6-1, 6-2 and followed up with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Eleonora Molinaro of Tennessee the next day.
She and doubles partner Alana Smith also won both of their doubles matches against the Monarchs and the Volunteers. Most notably, the duo came away with a win in what was a top-10 doubles matchup on court one against Old Dominion. The second-ranked Wolfpack pair defeated No. 8 Yulia Starodubtseva and Alesya Yakubovich for their fifth ranked victory as a duo this season.
NC State steps into league action this weekend for the first of three-straight ACC road contests. The team kicks off its ACC slate on Feb. 20 at Wake Forest, with first serve set for 2 p.m. that day.
