Shakeel Moore leads the Pack with 13 points
RALEIGH, N.C- The NC State men's basketball team fell to Duke, 69-53, inside of PNC Arena Saturday afternoon.
With the loss NC State falls to 8-9, 4-8 in the ACC, while Duke improves to 8-8, 6-6 in the ACC.
Freshman Shakeel Moore led the Pack with 13 points and three steals. The Greensboro native scored all 13 of his points in the second half as he finished the game shooting 5-of-8 from the field.
Redshirt senior forward D. J. Funderburk finished with 11 points and six rebounds while junior forward Jericole Hellems reached double figures for the eighth straight game with 11 points and five rebounds. Redshirt sophomore forward Manny Bates recorded eight points, a game-high seven rebounds and four blocks for the Pack.
The Pack trailed 11-10 six minutes into the game after a dunk by Hellems, but Duke scored the next 14 points to take a 25-10 lead with 9:39 left in the opening half. A Braxton Beverly lay-up ended the Pack's scoreless streak, but Duke scored eight on the next nine points after Beverly's bucket to take a 33-13 lead with 6:11 remaining until the half.
The Blue Devils would lead by as many as 22 points in the first half and would take a 39-21 lead into the break.
NC State turned the ball over 13 times in the first half and finished the game with 19 turnovers. Duke turned the Pack's 18 turnovers into 22 points.
The Pack could never put a dent into Duke's lead in the final 20 minutes as the Blue Devils led by as many as 23 points.
Sophomore forward Matthew Hurt recorded 24 points for the Blue Devils while freshman center Mark Williams had 13 points and five blocks.
NC State returns to action Wednesday when it travels to Pennsylvania to play Pitt. Tipoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. and the game will be televised on the ACC Network.
