SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Graduate guard Raina Perez of the NC State women's basketball team has been selected as one of 10 finalists for the 2021 Nancy Lieberman Award, which is an annual honor that recognizes the top point guard in women's NCAA Division I basketball.
Wolfpack fans are encouraged to participate in this year's Fan Voting, which opens on Friday, Feb. 5. The top five player selections based on the fan vote will receive an additional vote towards making the next round. In early March, five finalists will be presented to Ms. Lieberman and the Hall of Fame's selection committee.
Since transferring to NC State prior to the start of the 2020-21 campaign, Perez has made a profound impact on a Wolfpack squad that has been ranked in the national top 10 for the entirety of the season and compiled an 11-1 (6-1 ACC) record.
The Goodyear, Ariz., native is averaging 9.8 points and 4.8 assists per game after starting each of the last 10 outings. Perez has compiled a 43-of-92 (.467) shooting mark and is also shooting 33.3 percent (11-of-33) from long range this season.
Even more impressive are the floor leadership and play-making abilities that she has displayed at point. Perez has compiled 57 assists to just 22 turnovers, with her 2.59 assist-to-turnover ratio pacing the ACC and ranking 31st nationally. She has dished out three or more assists in 10 games total and five or more assists in six games total. Additionally, Perez has put together four outings with three or more assists and zero turnovers.
Her efforts have helped direct an NC State team that ranks 14th nationally in scoring offense (81.8) and scoring margin (+18.7) as the squad heads into its final month of regular-season action.
The winner of this season's Nancy Lieberman Award will be presented April 9, 2021 alongside the other four members of the Women's Starting Five. For more information on the award and to vote beginning Feb. 5, visit HoopHallAwards.com.
