LEXINGTON, Ky. – For the second consecutive season, NC State volleyball graduate student Melissa Evans has been named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association East All-Region Team as announced by the organization on Tuesday morning.
With the honor, Evans became the third player in program history to be named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference First Team and AVCA East All-Region Team in back-to-back years. Julia Brown is the most recent member of the Wolfpack to complete the feat as she was named to both teams in 2016 and 2017 while Volire Tisdale did the same in 1987 and 1988.
Evans had a stellar final season with NC State as the Preseason All-ACC selection led the team with 369 kills, averaging 3.62 per set while hitting .249 on the year. Her 3.62 kills per set ranks seventh in the ACC.
Additionally, Evans finished the season with 156 digs (1.53 per set) and 50 total blocks that included seven solo denials. She recorded six double-doubles on the season which was the third-most on the team. Evans tallied three matches with 20 or more kills this season, highlighted by her career-high 25 kills in the five-set thriller win over Rutgers on Sept. 10.
Overall, the opposite racked up 24 games this season with double-digit kills, leading the team in kills in 14 games. On the road at Miami on Oct. 3, Evans recorded her 1,369th career kill to become the program's leader in kills in the rally scoring era.
