Dereon Seabron was named ACC Player of the Week while Terquavion Smith earned Freshman of the Week honors
RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State men's basketball swept the ACC weekly honors Monday as Dereon Seabron was named Player of the Week and Terquavion Smith earned Freshman of the Week honors.
ACC men's basketball weekly honors are determined by a vote of a 15-member media panel and announced on Mondays throughout the regular season.
Seabron averaged 25.0 points, 14 rebounds and three assists per game last week to win ACC weekly honors for the second time this season.
The Norfolk, Va., native started the week with career-highs in points (39) and rebounds (19) to lead the Pack to a four overtime win over Nebraska, 104-100. The game tied for the longest in program history.
The 39 points are the most by an NC State player in the Kevin Keatts era and are also the most ever scored by a player in the 23-year history of the ACC-Big Ten Challenge.
He scored 33 of his 39 points in the second half and overtimes as the Pack overcame a 14-point second half deficit to force overtime and win.
On Saturday, he fell one rebound shy of his sixth double-double of the season with 11 points and nine rebounds in a 73-68 loss to Louisville. Seabron capped a 27-8 run that saw NC State turn a 14-point halftime deficit into a five-point lead with a thunderous dunk and then an acrobatic lay-up in transition.
For the season, Seabron is averaging 20.4 points on 54.6 percent field goal shooting and 10.9 rebounds per game.
Seabron is the first NC State player to win multiple ACC Player of the Week honors in the same season since Cat Barber won the honor three times in the 2015-16 season.
Smith averaged 13.0 points and 7.5 rebounds per game last week to win the league's weekly freshman honor.
He started the week with nine points and a career-high 11 rebounds in the Pack's thrilling four overtime win over Nebraska. In his ACC-debut on Saturday, Smith scored 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting, including 3-of-5 from long range, and added one block and a steal in the loss to Louisville.
NC State returns to action Thursday when it hosts Bethune-Cookman Thursday in the program's annual Heritage Game played at Reynolds Coliseum. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. and the game will be shown locally on Bally Sports South. (Complete list of affiliates here)
