RALEIGH – NC State women's tennis has added Gina Dittmann to its roster, as announced by head coach Simon Earnshaw on Friday.
Dittmann is transferring from Northern Arizona University where she completed her rookie campaign with the Lumberjacks in 2020-21. She is set to join the Wolfpack for the start of the 2022-23 academic year.
"It quickly became evident during our communication with Gina that she was going to be an ideal fit with our program culture and goals," said Earnshaw. "Her work rate, vision and personality resonated strongly with both (assistant coach) Dave (Secker) and I and what we believe is paramount to realize the expectations we have for everyone involved with the program. Gina has a huge appetite for everything tennis related and is extremely focussed on what needs to be done to generate growth in her game and performance. I couldn't be more excited to welcome Gina to the Wolfpack next season and to get to work together in helping her realize all of her tennis and academic aspirations. Go Pack!"
Dittmann put together an incredibly decorated freshman season while at NAU, capped off by being named Big Sky Freshman of the Year, Big Sky Player of the Year and ITA Mountain Region Rookie of the Year. She produced one of the best freshman seasons in the program's history and was named to the All-Big Sky First Team in singles after finishing the season with a 15-1 overall record.
Dittmann entered the fall season ranked No. 85 nationally in singles and most recently reached the semifinals of the ITA Mountain Regionals in October. She also competed in the ITA All-American Championships earlier this fall, highlighted by a straight-sets win against No. 12 Vanessa Wong.
"I chose NC State because of the high level of the tennis program, and I really like how structured everything is," said Dittmann. "The goals, the work ethic and the focus of the team is exactly what I was looking for."
Prior to her collegiate career, Dittman was consistently ranked among the top 20 German players in her age group and was near the top 100 among all women's tennis players in Germany.
Dittmann has also impressed on tour, racking up WTA points in four events (ITF Monastir, Tunisia W15, ITF Versmold, Germany W60). Over the summer, she earned a three-set win over Ekaterina Kazionova of Russia, who currently has a WTA ranking of 355 and an ITF ranking of 34.
Dittmann is the daughter of Dorit and Ralph Dittmann. She has one younger brother, Luca. Dittmann also grew up playing soccer, and she also enjoys skiing, horse riding and swimming when she is not on the court.
