GREENSBORO, N.C. – NC State women's basketball guard Diamond Johnson was honored as Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday.
Johnson earned her first career conference Player of the Week honor after averaging 20.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 4.0 steals in a 2-0 week for the Wolfpack that included wins over No. 2 Maryland and Washington State. She put together those averages while shooting over 50 percent overall (.515, 17-of-33) and from distance (.538, 7-of-13).
The Philadelphia, Pa., native turned in her best scoring performance in NC State uniform against the Terrapins with 17 points, eight boards and a team-leading five assists and four steals. Johnson then bested that outing against Washington State, where she finished just two points shy of her career high with 24. It marked the eighth 20+ point game of her career and is the highest scoring performance by a member of the Wolfpack through seven games. Johnson shot 10-of-16 (.625) against the Cougars and knocked down four threes.
On the year, Johnson averages 13.3 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2.1 steals per game. She ranks sixth in the league in steals and seventh with her 51.3 percent clip from the field. Johnson is one of two players in the ACC to average 10+ points/5+ rebounds/3+ assists/2+ steals.
After moving up to No. 2 in the Associated Press Top 25 earlier Monday, the Wolfpack turns its attention to a top-10 B1G/ACC Challenge matchup with sixth-ranked Indiana.
