
Hellems’ Career-High Leads Pack Past Louisiana Tech

Senior from Saint Louis poured in a career-best 31 points in the win
RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State senior forward Jericole Hellems scored a career-high 31 points to lead NC State to a 90-81 win over Louisiana Tech Saturday afternoon inside PNC Arena.
With the win, NC State improves to 5-1 on the season.
Hellems finished the game 10-of-19 from the field, including 6-of-8 from long range. The six three-pointers were also a career-high and tied for the most by an ACC player this season. Hellems' 31 points are the most by an NC State player since Torin Dorn scored 34 points on March 27, 2019 in the Pack's NIT game against Lipscomb.
The Saint Louis native scored 21 of his 31 points in the first half as he helped NC State jump out to a lead as large as 15 points in the opening half.
A 16-5 run by Louisiana Tech brought the Bulldogs within four, 35-31, with 2:46 left in the first half but NC State rattled off the next six points to push the lead back into double digits before heading into the halftime break with a 41-33 lead.
Louisiana Tech cut the deficit to six points multiple times in the second half, but NC State had an answer every time to prevent the Bulldogs from getting any closer.
Sophomore forward Ebenezer Dowuona had career-highs in points (10) on a perfect 5-of-5 shooting and blocks (6) to help the Pack.
Junior guard Casey Morsell added 14 points, including 12 clutch points in the second half when the Pack was without Hellems who was on the bench with four fouls.
Like Morsell, Cam Hayes scored 14 points and had 12 of his 14 in the second half. The sophomore from Greensboro was a perfect 8-of-8 from the charity stripe.
Sophomore guard Dereon Seabron had his lowest scoring output of the season in points (10) and rebounds (7), but had career-highs in assists (5) and steals (5).
Louisiana Tech's Kenneth Lofton, Jr., led Louisiana Tech with 36 points and 18 rebounds, including nine offensive rebounds. The sophomore forward scored 23 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in the second period.
NC State continues its homestand Wednesday evening when it hosts Nebraska in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge. The game will tipoff at 7:15 p.m. and be televised on ESPNU.
