Annual award honors the top shooting guard in women’s NCAA Division I basketball
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – For the second season in a row, NC State women's basketball junior Jakia Brown-Turner has been named one of 20 watch list candidates for the 2022 Ann Meyers-Drysdale Award that honors the top shooting guard in women's NCAA Division I basketball.
A Preseason All-ACC honoree for 2021-22, Brown-Turner enjoyed a decorated sophomore campaign in 2020-21 as she was named an Honorable Mention All-American by the Associated Press and was a Consensus First Team All-ACC honoree. The Oxon Hill, Md., native averaged 13.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game while shooting 44.2 percent from the floor and 37 percent from downtown.
Brown-Turner scored in double figures in 20 of 25 games last season, including the first 13 games in a row. She posted the first 20+ point game of her career on Dec. 17 (23 points) and went on to post a total of four such scoring performances on the year. She upped her scoring average to 15.8 points per game in league action, and she knocked down three or more triples in four games, including two with a career-high four.
Through two completed seasons at NC State, Brown-Turner averages 43.3 percent shooting, a 36.9 clip from three-point range and has compiled 639 total points.
Wolfpack fans are encouraged to participate in this year's Fan Voting during each of the three rounds. In late January, the watch list will be narrowed down to 10 players. In March, five finalists will be presented to Ms. Meyers-Drysdale and the Hall of Fame's selection committee. Details for the presentation of this year's Ann Meyers-Drysdale Award winner will be announced at a later date.
