GREENSBORO, N.C. – NC State swimming and diving junior Katharine Berkoff was honored as ACC Women's Swimmer of the Week for the second time in her career, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.
The award comes after the backstroker contributed several stellar performances in the team's victories over Auburn and Kentucky last weekend. It marks the second such honor of the three-time NCAA Champion's career, as she was also named ACC Swimmer of the Week last season after competing at the UNC Invite.
Berkoff took the top spot in both of her individual races at the Auburn's tri-meet over the weekend. Her 100-yard backstroke time of 51.85 marks the second-fastest time in the ACC this season, and her impressive 1:53.73 in the 200-yard backstroke was almost three seconds faster than the field and ranks second nationally this season.
The Missoula, Mont., native also contributed a 24.17 backstroke split in the Wolfpack's 200-yard medley relay victory (1:37.34). Berkoff also found success in a slate of exhibition events that NC State swam on Saturday. She touched first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:48.52), third in the 100-yard butterfly (56.26) and first as part of the 200-yard freestyle relay team (1:32.48, 23.35 leadoff split).
