RALEIGH - The NC State men's tennis team continues its fall season Oct. 22-26 at the ITA Carolina Regional. The tournament is hosted by Duke and will be played at the Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C.
Members of the squad will compete for automatic-qualifier bids in singles and doubles to the ITA Fall National Championships Nov. 4-7 in San Diego, Calif. The singles finalists and doubles champions from each region will tab the auto-bids for Fall Nationals.
Ten members of the team will compete, and all 10 are slated to compete in doubles and singles action. Singles play is set to begin Friday, Oct. 22 at 8:30am with matches scheduled throughout the day.
LAST TIME OUT
Several members of the NC State team competed at the ITA All-American Championships. Sophomore Luca Staeheli led the way, tallying a 2-6, 6-2, 6-1 win over David Stevenson of Memphis in the first round of the qualifying singles draw before falling to No. 117 Daniel De Jonge (Pepperdine) 6-3, 6-1 in the second round.
PACK IN THE RANKINGS
Rafa Izquierdo Luque is the only Wolfpack singles player in the preseason ITA rankings, checking in at 82nd. In the doubles rankings, Yannai Barkai and Braden Shick tabbed a top-50 spot at No. 49.
Staeheli was named to the ITA's list of top-10 newcomers for 2021 at No. 3.
