
Women’s Soccer Welcomes No. 3 North Carolina Saturday Night

RALEIGH – NC State women's soccer (6-6-2, 2-4-0 ACC) returns home Saturday evening for its second Tobacco Road rivalry contest of the season, as it will welcome No. 3 North Carolina (10-1-2, 3-1-2 ACC) to Dail Soccer Stadium for a 7 p.m. matchup that will be broadcast on the ACCNX.
FREE ADMISSION
Beginning in 2021, NC State women's soccer games are free of charge. Gates will open one hour prior to the start of each match. As NC State works toward a more normal on-campus experience, NC State Athletics will continue abiding by the current policies for campus as outlined in the University Community Standards.
LAST TIME OUT
NC State picked up its second-straight win in ACC play on Sunday with a 2-1 result at Louisville, marking its third consecutive victory over the Cardinals at Lynn Stadium.
Jameese Joseph opened the scoring in the 12th minute with her sixth goal of the season, and Annika Wohner doubled the team's lead in the 58th minute for her fifth goal of the year.
Louisville's Sarah Hernandez tallied the Cards' only goal of the match, as Maria Echezarreta managed to make four saves to help her team to victory.
SERIES HISTORY
Saturday will be the 52nd all-time meeting between NC State and UNC, as the Tar Heels own a 47-2-2 advantage in the series.
The last time the teams met was on November 18, 2019, in the ACC Tournament semifinals at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C., and the Pack suffered a 3-0 loss.
JOSEPH PICKS UP WEEKLY HONORS FROM ACC, TOPDRAWERSOCCER
Following a stellar performance in an undefeated week on the road for NC State women's soccer, Joseph was named the Atlantic Coast Conference's Offensive Player of the Week and was featured on TopDrawerSoccer's Team of the Week on Tuesday.
It was the Beltsville, Md., native's first career weekly honor from both outlets, as she helped propel the Wolfpack to wins with a goal apiece at then-No. 4 Duke on October 7 and Louisville on October 10.
RPI UPDATE
Following last week's winning success, NC State's RPI (rating percentage index) rose to No. 38, as it is one of nine ACC teams ranked among the top 40 of the latest NCAA RPI.
Its schedule has been rated the second toughest in the nation, as it has faced eight teams ranked or receiving votes, including seven top 20 opponents.
ABOUT THE TAR HEELS
The Tar Heels, who have been ranked among the top five of the national standings the entire season, are currently on a five-game undefeated streak as they picked up wins over Pittsburgh and Boston College last week in league play. Its only loss of the season was in its ACC opener against Duke at home.
UNC is currently fifth in the ACC standings after finishing second last season, as the Heels reached the 2020 ACC Championship finals and NCAA College Cup. UNC was predicted to finish second in the ACC Preseason Coaches' Poll, as Maycee Bell and Rachel Jones were featured on the Preseason All-ACC Team.
