RALEIGH – Just over three hundred days after its last official collegiate action, NC State women's tennis is set to return to the court and kick off its 2021 campaign at the Duke Winter Classic. The event, which also includes the Tennessee Volunteers, will run Jan. 10-11 at the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center in Durham, N.C.
Due to the impacts of COVID-19, spectators are not permitted to attend home events at Duke.
BACK WITH THE PACK:
• Every player that appeared in the final national rankings returns to the Pack's roster for 2021.
• Three NC State returners finished last season in the top 40 of the singles standings: Alana Smith (No. 22), Anna Rogers (No. 32) and Adriana Reami (No. 37). Liz Norman (No. 101) rounded out the ranked singles players for the Wolfpack.
• Smith and Rogers paired up last season to be the nation's second-ranked doubles pair, with Jaeda Daniel and Reami checking in at No. 21 nationally.
19-20 REWIND:
• Ranked inside the top 10 during the entirety of the 2020 season
• Soared as high as a program-best No. 3
• Was off to best start in program history for the second year in a row with an 18-3 record
• Five victories over top-25 opponents, including a historic upset over No. 3 Georgia for the Wolfpack's highest-ranked win in program history
• Appeared at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships for the second year in a row in February
• Rogers and Smith named ITA All-Americans for the second season in a row after becoming the program's first All-America honorees in 2018-19
NEW FACES:
• NC State signed three freshmen players as the newest additions to the Wolfpack women's tennis program: Amelia Rajecki, Abigail Rencheli and Sada Nahimana.
• The highly-touted 2020 recruiting class is expected to help continue building the program's momentum and maintain the Pack's position as one of the fastest-rising squads in collegiate women's tennis.
SCOUTING THE BLUE DEVILS:
• Finished the 2020 campaign with a No. 10 national ranking, joining NC State as one of the four ACC squads in the national top 10
• Went 11-2 (3-0 ACC) on the year before the season ended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. That record included top-25 wins over No. 6 Pepperdine, No. 3 Georgia and No. 25 Syracuse
• Returns all of its players that were featured in the season-ending national rankings. That number includes four singles players, highlighted by Kelly Chen (No. 7) and two doubles pairs
