#14 Wolfpack Falls to #12 Georgia

ATHENS, GA. - The 14th-ranked NC State men's tennis (1-2) team fell 4-3 to 12th-ranked Georgia (3-0) in its first ranked matchup of the season on Sunday.
DOUBLES
Georgia got the first doubles win as Philip Henning and Erik Grevelius defeated Yannai Barkai and Collin Shick 6-2.
Tadas Babelis and Robin Catry went up early at number one doubles, taking the lead at 3-2 and winning 6-4. The pair, playing doubles together for the first time, got a top-10 victory as they defeated No. 8 Trent Bryde and Tyler Zink.
No. 23 Alexis Galarneau and Robert Turzak sealed the doubles victory for NC State, gutting out a 7-6(4) win over Blake Croyder and Billy Rowe.
SINGLES
Croyder got Georgia on the board in singles action with a 6-2, 6-3 win over No. 95 Tadas Babelis, and a win by 73rd-ranked Zink put the Bulldogs in the lead. Zink defeated Barkai 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.
In a top-10 matchup, ninth-ranked Bryde defeated seventh-ranked Galarneau 6-2, 1-6, 7-5.
Robin Catry got the first singles win of the day for NC State, getting a quick 6-2, 6-2 win over Croyder.
Not long after, Izquierdo Luque got his first ranked victory of the season over a top-20 opponent. The junior posted a 6-4, 6-7(3), 7-5 win over No. 18 Henning.
The match came down to the matchup of Turzak and Rowe. After dropping the first set, Turzak came back and won the second to send the match to a third set. Ultimately it was Rowe who claimed the 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 victory at the end of a back-and-forth third set.

"Great college tennis match with lots of brutal matches that went the distance with both teams giving their best," said head coach Kyle Spencer. "Obviously on the four courts at Georgia, when it comes down to last match it's a long day for sure. Very proud of our team and the effort they gave throughout 5+ hours. We came up a little short on the road today, but it's very clear we are a tough team to beat.
"Looking forward to Friday versus a good Charlotte team and then on the road versus Tennessee again. Lots of opportunities and challenges up ahead for us!"
