RALEIGH – The 11th-ranked NC State rifle team is set to take on #8 Memphis in a virtual match, tomorrow, Jan. 30. Each team will be shooting at separate locations with the scores combined at the end of the day.
The Wolfpack is riding a hot streak in 2021, coming off a program-record performance in air rifle on Jan. 16 and then the second-best score in program history on Jan. 24. Travis Stockton has been a huge part of the NC State success, as he has had three-straight air rifle performances of a 595 or better.
Last week against #8 Nebraska, Stockton posted a career-high 1180 aggregate score, tying for the sixth-highest mark in program history. On Jan. 15 against UT Martin, the redshirt freshman shot a 597 which ties for second all-time at NC State. Stockton is just the second NC State athlete to record a 597 or better in the event, behind Olympian Lucas Kozeniesky who did so four times during his collegiate career.
Following this weekend, the Wolfpack will have one more opportunity on Feb. 13 against Akron to boost its NCAA Qualifying score before heading to the NCAA Qualifiers on Feb. 20. The NCAA Qualifying score is made up of the average of your top three team scores + NCAA Qualifying score. The Wolfpack currently sit in ninth based off averages with the top eight teams qualifying to the NCAA Championships.
