Junior center is the only player from the ACC named to the midseason list
ATLANTA – Wolfpack junior Elissa Cunane is one of 15 women's basketball players named to the watch list for the 2021 Naismith Women's Defensive Player of the Year, as announced by the Atlanta Tipoff Club on Tuesday.
The NC State center is the only ACC player featured on the midseason list. Cunane has also already been tabbed to the Wooden Award Midseason Top 25 in addition to being featured on multiple other preseason watch lists for National Player of the Year.
A native of Summerfield, N.C., Cunane is averaging a team-leading 16.2 points and 7.5 rebounds per game and is shooting 58.2 percent (57-of-98) from the floor. All three of those numbers rank in the top 10 in the ACC this season, with her field-goal percentage ranking third in the league.
On the defensive side of the ball, Cunane plays a central role on a Wolfpack squad that holds its opponents to just 34.3 percent from the floor this year and outscores its opponents by an average of 21.5 points per game.
Cunane averages 1.4 blocks and 5.0 defensive rebounds, both both of those numbers also ranking in the top 11 in the conference. She has also snagged seven steals, which marks as her most through 10 games of a season in her career and is just four short of a single-season high for the 6-5 center.
