
Pack Falls to Tar Heels

Devon Daniels led the Pack with 21 points
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The NC State men's basketball team could not complete a season sweep of North Carolina, falling to the Tar Heels, 86-76, Saturday afternoon inside the Dean E. Smith Center.
With the loss, NC State falls to 6-5, 2-4 in the ACC, while UNC improves to 10-5, 5-3 in the ACC.
NC State had a season-best five players reach double figures, led by senior guard Devon Daniels with 21 points.
D.J. Funderburk added 14 points, Braxton Beverly finished with 12, Jericole Hellems 11 and Manny Bates had 10 points and seven blocked shots.
Beverly also had a career-high five steals and his second three-pointer of the game was the 200th of his career. The Hazard, Ky., native is just the fifth player in program history to connect on 200 career three-pointers.
The first half was close until the final three minutes when a 10-2 Carolina run gave the Tar Heels a 43-33 lead at the break.
NC State would get within six points two different times late in the second half, but UNC had an answer each time and the Pack would never get closer than six points in the final 20 minutes.
The Tar Heels also placed five players in double figures, led by Armando Bacot with 17 points. Day'Ron Sharpe came off-the-bench to add 16 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
North Carolina finished the game, shooting 54.4 percent from the field, outscored the Pack, 38-12, in bench points and had a 44-30 rebounding advantage.
NC State returns to action Wednesday evening when it hosts Wake Forest inside PNC Arena. The game will be televised on the ACC Network and will tipoff at 8 p.m.
