GREENSBORO, N.C. – NC State men's soccer senior midfielder George Asomani has been named to the 2020 Atlantic Coast Conference Preseason Watch List, as announced by the league office on Tuesday morning.
During the 2019 campaign, his debut season with the Wolfpack, Asomani played in 18 games and earned the start in each one of those outings on his way to tallying a total of 1,598 minutes on the field. He recorded nine shots on the year and found the back of the net in NC State's ACC Tournament quarterfinal match at Pittsburgh.
The Accra, Ghana, native played the first two seasons of his collegiate career at Monroe College before transferring to NC State. He was part of the 2019 recruiting class that was ranked as high as sixth nationally by TopDrawerSoccer.com. While with the Mustangs, Asomani was an NJCAA All-American in both 2017 and 2018, helping lead his teams to Regional and District titles during both of those seasons.
The conference also released its coaches poll on Tuesday. NC State was selected to finish fourth in the competitive South Region, with Clemson chosen as the regional favorite and the predicted overall champion.
The Wolfpack will host Duke in an exhibition match on Friday and will then travel to North Carolina for another preseason contest before officially opening the regular season on the road against the Blue Devils on Sept. 26.
