RALEIGH, N.C. – The ACC has announced its fall 2020 volleyball schedule, including a slate of eight games for NC State beginning Sept. 25. Broadcast times and availability will be determined at a later date.
"We are very fortunate that we get to play volleyball in the next few weeks," said head coach Luka Slabe. "The main objective for our team will be to learn more about ourselves through competition. This competition will give us a clearer idea of what areas of our performance need to improve the most. Having fun while competing and getting better is high on our priority list as well."
The Wolfpack's schedule pans across five weeks against four ACC foes – North Carolina, Duke, Virginia and Virginia Tech. NC State kicks off Slabe's first season at the helm of the program against the Blue Devils on Sept. 25 and Sept. 26. The Pack then hosts Virginia Tech, Oct. 2 and Oct. 3. Following a bye weekend, NC State is set to welcome North Carolina to Reynolds Coliseum for a pair of matches on Oct. 16 and Oct. 18 before concluding the season in Charlottesville against Virginia, Oct. 23-24.
With student-athlete welfare in mind, the revised ACC schedule minimizes competition days and travel between schools in the same weekend. The announcement follows the previous release on plans for ACC sports on July 29 and applies with enhanced health and safety protocols of the ACC's Medical Advisory Report.
NC State returns 12 letter winners from the 2019 season, including three-time All-ACC honoree Melissa Evans. Evans received Second Team All-ACC honors in 2019 after averaging 3.55 kills per set and ranking fourth in the conference with 408 kills. NC State also welcomes four newcomers, including redshirt freshman Sydney Ferguson.
As announced earlier in the week, Reynolds Coliseum will operate without spectators for all home games through at least the month of September. NC State will continue to evaluate its ability to lessen restrictions and re-evaluate its position for the remainder of the fall season.
