Men's Tennis Earns ITA Academic Honors

TEMPE, ARIZ. - The NC State men's tennis team was named a 2020 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team, as announced by the ITA on Monday. In order to be named an ITA All-Academic Team, a squad must have a team GPA of 3.2 or above.Â
In addition to the team honor, Collin Shick and Tristan Smith were named ITA Scholar-Athletes. Shick earned the honor for the third consecutive season while Smith was tabbed for the first time in his career. In order to be an ITA Scholar-Athlete, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.5 GPA for the academic year and been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters (including freshman through senior year).
Despite a season shortened due to COVID-19, the Wolfpack's 2020 campaign was historic. The team achieved multiple program-high rankings, reaching its highest ranking at No. 6 in the Oracle/ITA rankings. NC State additionally made its first-ever trip to the ITA I Men's Team Indoor Championship after two wins at the ITA Kickoff Weekend, including a win over Virginia. The Wolfpack's win over the Cavaliers was its first in over 20 years.
The team additionally posted wins over squads that completed 2020 action ranked in the top five nationally, first defeating then-No. 17 Michigan and then earning the highest-ranked win since at least 1999 with a 4-3 victory over fourth-ranked Texas.
