The Doubles Duo Garners the Honors for Second Consecutive Year
TEMPE, Ariz. – For the second consecutive season, Anna Rogers and Alana Smith have been named Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division I Women's All-Americans, as announced by the organization on Tuesday.
The 2020 ITA Division I Women's All-Americans were named after a shortened season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Twenty singles players and 10 doubles pairs were awarded the prestigious honor.
This season, the doubles duo carried a 29-4 record together, including an impressive 9-2 record against nationally-ranked opponents. Four of those ranked wins came against top-25 opponents. Throughout dual season, Rogers and Smith were consistent on court one at 16-3 and helped the team climb to its highest ranking ever at No. 3 after defeating No. 3 Georgia, 4-1, at the ITA Indoor National Championship.
Rogers and Smith opened the 2019-20 Oracle/ITA Rankings tabbed as the No. 1 duo in the nation, marking the highest ranking in any category in NC State women's tennis history. They held that ranking for four and a half months, and never wavered outside the top two the entirety of the season.
Their accomplishments throughout the 2019-20 season include the 2019 ITA Carolina Regional Doubles title, which was the Pack's first-ever trophy earned in the tournament's history and advancing to the 2019 Oracle/ITA National Fall Championships Doubles Final, which is the farthest any singles or doubles players have advanced in the program's history of the tournament.
Rogers and Smith became the program's first All-Americans during the 2018-19 season, earning the designation in doubles, and Rogers also earned the status in singles last season.
