TEMPE, ARIZ. - Senior Alexis Galarneau has been named an ITA All-American, as announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Assocation on Tuesday. Galarneau is the first member of the Wolfpack to be named an ITA All-American since Jay Weinacker earned the honor in 2009.
Galarneau concluded 2020 action ranked No. 20 in the Oracle/ITA singles rankings, having defeated five ranked singles opponents over the course of the season. The Laval, Canada native posted a 10-1 singles record and was an integral part of NC State's success this season. He clinched the Wolfpack's highest-ranked win since at least 1999 over No. 4 Texas with his defeat of second-ranked Yuya Ito.
The senior additionally clinched NC State's first win over Virginia since 1999, defeating the preseason top-ranked player Carl Soderlund to seal the win as well as the program's first-ever trip to the ITA National Men's Team Indoor Championship.
Galarneau was named the UTR/ITA Men's Division I Player of the Week on Jan. 28 and garnered ACC Player of the Week honors three times during 2020 action.
HEAR FROM THE PACK: HEAD COACH KYLE SPENCER
"What an honor for Alexis!" said head coach Kyle Spencer. "I know he will say it's a team award, but the reality is that Alexis has worked tirelessly to get his body back after 2+ seasons playing through injury. He has pushed our team to be at its best day in and day out.
His impact on our program is undeniable; he has been a driving force and helped us reach No. 6 in the final abbreviated Oracle/ITA national rankings. He will now be remembered in NC State men's tennis history as one of the elite and part of a select group of the best to ever play at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center! Pack Risin'!"
