CLEARWATER, FLA. – The NC State softball team dropped its final game of the NFCA Leadoff Classic to Mississippi State, 9-0, in five-innings Sunday afternoon. Mississippi State (5-0) was receiving votes in the ESPN.com/USASoftball preseason poll. NC State moves to 2-3 on the weekend, with a top-25 win against Ole Miss. Four of NC State's five opponents over the weekend were ranked or receiving votes in the preseason polls.
Angie Rizzi picked up the lone hit of the day for the Wolfpack, with a single in the third inning. Sydney Nester started the game in the circle, pitching three innings and allowing five runs on five hits. Nester struck out three to move her weekend total to 13.
GAME RECAP
Mississippi State took a 4-0 lead in the first inning with a grand slam from Chloe Malau'ulu. After a scoreless two innings, the Bulldogs tacked on a fifth run with a sacrifice fly in the fourth.

With two outs and a runner on second base in the fifth, a fielding error at first base put two runners on for Mississippi State. The Bulldogs then had an RBI-double and a three-run home run to end the game.
