Wolfpack Enters Top 10 in Oracle/ITA Rankings

TEMPE, ARIZ. - The NC State men's tennis team achieved its highest-ever Oracle/ITA ranking for the second consecutive week, checking in at No. 10, as announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) on Wednesday.
The ITA additionally announced the first singles and doubles rankings since Nov. 13, 2019. Junior Tadas Babelis and sophomore Yannai Barkai moved up 20 spots from No. 32 to No. 12. The pair defeated the 13th-ranked doubles team in NC State's matchup with Princeton on Feb. 2 and was named ACC Doubles Team of the Week by the conference office on Feb. 4.
The duo's ranking is the highest an NC State doubles team has been ranked since Robbie Mudge and Ian Dempster were ranked No. 9 in the preseason Oracle/ITA Rankings in the 2014-2015 season.
Senior Alexis Galarneau and junior Robert Turzak entered the rankings at No. 44 after being previously unranked. The doubles team defeated then-No. 53 Gianni Ross and William Woodall in the Wolfpack's win over then-No. 23 Virginia on Jan. 26. Galarneau and Turzak garnered the ACC Doubles Team of the Week honors on Jan. 28.
In the singles rankings, Galarneau notched the 77th spot after defeating ranked opponents in NC State's victories over then-No. 17 Michigan and Northwestern. Galarneau earned ACC Co-Player of the Week honors on Jan. 21 with Louisville's Tin Chen. The Laval, Canada native earned the ACC Player of the Week distinction as well as the UTR/ITA Division I Men's Player of the Week accolades on Jan. 28.
