
Stewart Wins Third Consecutive 100 Back ACC Title

The Senior Broke the Meet Record on his way to Victory
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The NC State men's swimming team earned one ACC individual title and three podium finishes on the third day of the ACC Championship at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. Coleman Stewart collected his third straight 100-yard backstroke ACC trophy with a meet record time, clocking in at 44.04 to post the fastest time in the nation. Stewart set the meet record last year in 44.36.
With the victory, Stewart becomes the second swimmer in program history to win three 100-yard backstroke titles in his time at NC State.
At the end of the third day, NC State leads the competition with 853 points, followed by Virginia (762 pts.) and Louisville (746 pts.).
100 FLY:
NC State placed four swimmers in the 100-yard freestyle A final (Stewart, Nyls Korstanje, Noah Hensley and Luke Sobolewski), the most of any team. Stewart posted an NCAA A cut in the prelims, clocking in at 45.00.
In the finals, Stewart and Korstanje delivered a two-three punch in 44.92 and 45.47, respectively, to bring home medals in the event with top-five program times. Hensley and Sobolewski notched top-10 finishes in the finals as their 45.71 and 46.56 clips placed them in fifth and eighth place.
400 IM:
Eric Knowles punched his ticket to the 400-yard individual medley final as the two seed with a 3:43.64 mark, which ranks fourth in school history. He posted a 3:46.01 in the finals, ending the night in sixth place.
Gil Kiesler found his way into the C Final thanks to a 3:53.33 clip, and improved that mark with a 3:52.55 in the finals.
200 FREE:
Erge Gezmis found his second final in as many days with a 1:34.72 swim in the 200-yard freestyle prelims.
Zach Brown, Danny Erlenmeyer and Noah Bowers made their way into the B Final, and Hunter Tapp rounded out the 200-yard freestyle effort in the C Final.
Brown notched a season-best with a 1:34.64 clip in the finals.
In the finals, all five Pack swimmers earned top-20 finishes.
100 BREAST:
Rafal Kusto was the lone finalist with a 54.12 clip that placed him in the B Final where he recorded the Pack's fastest time of the season in the event, finding the wall in 54.04.
100 BACK:
Stewart secured his spot in the A Final to contend for his third consecutive title with the prelims' fastest time (44.48). Hensley joined him in the A Final and finished in sixth.
Mark McGlaughlin (46.49) and Jacob Johnson (47.42) rounded out scoring in the finals, finishing in ninth and 16th place respectively.
400 MEDLEY RELAY:
NC State took a fourth-place finish in the final event of the night. Stewart (44.38), Kusto (53.73), Korstanje (45.20) and Mark McGlaughlin (42.85) put together a 3:06.16 effort.

The NC State men's swimming team concludes action at the ACC Championship on Saturday as it vies for its sixth consecutive conference title. Prelims are set for 10 a.m., and finals are slated for a 6 p.m. start. The finals will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra starting at 6 p.m.
