Wolfpack was ACC regular-season champions for third straight year
RALEIGH, N.C. – After finishing with its first-ever undefeated dual record (15-0, 5-0 ACC), the NC State wrestling team finished the regular season ranked No. 3 in the final NWCA Coaches Poll of the season.
Â
The final ranking of third nationally is the second-best in school history, only being topped by finishing second after the 2015-16 season. NC State has now finished in the top-10 in the final NWCA Coaches Poll each of the last five seasons (2nd, 7th, 6th, 10th, 3rd).
Â
NC State was ranked in the top-10 in all 15 polls this season, and dating back over the last five seasons, NC State has appeared in the top-10 in 73 straight polls overall.
Â
NC State was ranked #10 in this season's preseason poll, then #9 in each of the next four weeks. After wins at #15 Cornell and Binghamton, the Pack climbed to #7, and then to #6 for five straight polls. A 29-12 win over then-No. 12 Princeton brought the Pack to #5, which it held for a pair of polls, and the Pack was #4 after it opened ACC action with a 28-9 home win over Virginia. With three straight top-10 ACC wins towards the end of the season, the Pack was ranked #3 in each of the last four polls.
Â
NC State and Iowa (13-0) were the lone teams to go undefeated in 2019-20, and the Pack will enter next season with the longest dual winning streak in the nation (17).
Â
NC State outscored its foes 453-129 (30.2-8.6) this season. The Pack won 114 of its 150 individual matches (76.0%) and 57 of those 114 wins were for bonus points (50.0%).
Â
The Wolfpack returns to action on Sunday, March 8, traveling to Pittsburgh for the 2020 ACC Championship. After taking top honors last season, NC State will be looking to capture back-to-back ACC titles for the first time since 2001-02.
