
Wolfpack Defeats Lancers, Moves To 4-0 On The Year

RALEIGH – No. 13 NC State baseball strung together six runs on as many hits in the first four innings en route to a 6-1 win over Longwood on Tuesday afternoon at Doak Field at Dail Park. The Wolfpack improves to 4-0 on the year and 5-0 in its all-time series with the Lancers, while Longwood falls to 1-4 on its season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-It only took two at bats for the Pack to get on the board, as Austin Murr drew a leadoff walk, and scored on Tyler McDonough's double to left center in the first inning.
-Lawson McArthur doubled the Pack's lead in the second, beating the shift with a single through the left side to score Terrell Tatum. Terrell reached on a walk, stole second and moved to third on a failed pickoff attempt to start the threat.
-Devonte Brown led off the third with a home run over the left center wall, then J.T. Jarrett's RBI groundout that scored Tatum made it 4-0. Tatum legged out a bunt single, and managed to advance to third on another failed pickoff attempt.
-In the fourth, Brown walked in a run with the bases loaded, then Jonny Butler's sac fly to center field brought what would be the final run across for the Pack.
-Longwood avoided the shutout with its lone run in the sixth. A one-out hit-by-pitch, outfield single and fly out to right field put runners at the corners for Jack Schnell, and he knocked in the run with a single through the left side.
QUICK HITS
-McDonough and McArthur led the team with two hits on the day. It was McDonough's second multi-hit game of the season.
-Brown's homer was the team's third of the year, as he turned in his second multi-RBI game of the year.
-Brown and Jonny Butler extended their hit and reached base streaks to four, while Murr additionally extended his reached base streak to four.
-Murr drew a career-high four walks, marking the second time this season a player has done so. The last was Patrick Bailey on Feb. 15 vs. James Madison.
-Four pitchers combined for the win, led by David Harrison who went a career-long six innings and struck out a career-high seven batters. Baker Nelson, Matt Willadsen and Logan Bender each threw an inning, fanning a combined five batters in the three innings of work.
-The pitching staff did not allow a walk in the game, which was the first time since May 12, 2019 vs. Clemson.
