SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - NC State women's basketball center Elissa Cunane has been named one of 10 finalists for the 2020 Lisa Leslie Award, an annual award that honors the top center in women's college basketball.Â
The Wolfpack sophomore has already been featured on the John R. Wooden Award Late Season Top 20 Watch List and the Citizen Naismith Trophy Midseason Top 30 List. As a freshman, she earned All-ACC Freshman Team honors and First Team All-ACC Tournament honors after a remarkable rookie campaign.
Cunane has continued to find new heights in the 2019-20 season. She is the only player in the ACC averaging a double-double on the season with 16.7 points and 10.4 rebounds per game. Her rebounding average paces the league, and she also owns the conference lead in double-double games (12).
Cunane's numbers also rank among the best at the national level, as she holds top-30 marks in double-doubles posted, defensive rebounds per game (7.3), field-goal percentage (.553) and rebounds per game.
The Summerfield, N.C., native put together a streak of four-straight double-double performances earlier this year. She has scored 20+ points in a total of nine outings, including six ACC matchups, and has scored in double figures in all but four games this season.
The selection committee for the Lisa Leslie Award is composed of top women's college basketball personnel including media members, head coaches, sports information directors and Hall of Famers. New to the award this season is fan voting, and Wolfpack Nation can now begin voting for Cunane to be featured on the last list of finalists.
In March, five players will be presented to Ms. Leslie and the Hall of Fame's selection committee. The winner of the 2020 Lisa Leslie Center Award will be presented at The College Basketball Awards presented by Wendy's in Los Angeles, Calif., on April 10, 2020.
