Patrick Bailey Earns Spot On Golden Spikes Award Preseason Watch List

DURHAM, N.C. – For the second consecutive season, NC State baseball's Patrick Bailey has earned a spot on the Golden Spikes Award Preseason Watch List, as announced on Thursday afternoon.
USA Baseball's Golden Spikes Award recognizes the nation's top amateur baseball player. The 43rd Golden Spikes Award will be presented on June 11 in Omaha, Neb.
The preseason watch list features 55 players, as 18 different collegiate athletic conferences are represented on the list.
This is the fourth-straight season that the program has had at least one player represented on either the preseason watch list, midseason watch list or list of semifinalists.
Bailey has recently been tabbed a consensus preseason All-American after earning the distinction from Baseball America, Collegiate Baseball, DI Baseball, NCBWA and Perfect Game. He additionally has been named one of the top 50 prospected for the 2020 MLB Draft by MLB Pipeline.
Last year, the Greensboro, N.C. native started 60 games behind the plate, compiling a .288 clip with 68 hits, 17 doubles, 10 homers and a .513 slugging percentage. Defensively, he committed just five errors in 476 chances for a .989 fielding percentage, and threw out 33 percent of base runners attempting to swipe a bag.
Thanks to a strong 2019 campaign, he was named a Buster Posey Award Semifinalist, awarded to the top collegiate catcher of the year, and spent the summer with the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team. Additionally, he was an American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-Region honoree, First Team All-ACC selection and Collegiate Baseball Third Team All-American.
