
Pack Closes Strong to Win at Syracuse

NC State outscored the Orange 17-6 in final 6:16
SYRACUSE, NY – The NC State men's basketball team held Syracuse to just one field goal over the final six minutes of the game to win Tuesday night, 79-74, at the Carrier Dome.
The Orange took a 68-62 lead on two Joe Girard free throws with 6:16 to play. Devon Daniels immediately responded with seven consecutive points to give the Pack a 69-68 lead with 4:25 to go.
The Pack extended the run to 9-0 on two C.J. Bryce free throws.
After the Orange cut the lead to one with another Girard basket, NC State hit consecutive three-pointers by Markell Johnson and Bryce to stretch the lead to 77-70 with 2:35 to go.
Syracuse would never get closer than four points the rest of the way.
Daniels tied his season-high with 23 points. The junior guard scored 15 of his 23 points in the second half. He finished the game 8-of-15 shooting and added three steals.
Bryce finished with 19 points on 5-of-7 shooting, including 4-of-6 from three-point range. Jericole Hellems was the third NC State player in double figures with 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds.
Johnson finished with eight points, eight assists and a career-high tying four steals.
With the win, NC State improves to 16-8, 7-6 in the ACC.
The Pack finished the game 11-of-25 from three-point range. Syracuse hit its first three-pointer of the game on the opening possession of the contest, but hit just two more the rest of the game as the Orange was 3-of-18 from deep.
Girard led Syracuse with a career-high 30 points and Quincy Guerrier had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
NC State led 39-35 at the break.
Syracuse held an early 6-2 lead, but NC State went on an 18-5 run over nearly eight minutes to take its largest lead of the game, 20-11, on Bryce three-pointer with 9:22 left in the half.
The Orange responded with a 15-3 run to take a 26-23 lead with 5:27 remaining in the half. The Pack answered with a Pat Andree three to tie the game at 26. Syracuse held a 33-29 lead with 3:05 left in the first half, but NC State held the Orange to just one field goal the rest of the half, ending the period on a 10-2 run.
NC State returns to action Sunday night when it closes its three-game road stretch at Boston College. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. and will be televised on the ACC Network.
