NCAA RELEASE
INDIANAPOLIS – The fourth-ranked and undefeated NC State women's basketball team (4-0) has been named the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Team of the Week after picking up wins at then-No. 1 South Carolina and Coastal Carolina on Dec. 3 and Dec. 6.
The Pack jumped up four spots and moved up to fourth nationally in the Associated Press Top 25.
In a big non-conference matchup with the Gamecocks, NC State handed top-ranked South Carolina its first home loss since the end of the 2018-19 season and snapped what was a 29-game overall winning streak for the team. The Pack's 54-46 victory was its third all time over the nation's No. 1 team and its first since March 3, 2007. Kayla Jones (16 points, 12 rebounds) and Jakia Brown-Turner (11 points, 12 rebounds) both posted double-doubles on the night.
NC State followed up with a 52-point defeat of Coastal Carolina at home. The Wolfpack outscored the Chanticleers 64-10 in the second and third quarters, and six players scored in double figures in the 98-46 win. NC State assisted on 28 of its 37 made baskets and snagged 10 steals.
Jones was named ACC Player of the Week after averaging a double-double (14 points, 10 rebounds) in those two games. Her double-double against South Carolina was the first of her career, and she put together a productive outing against Coastal Carolina with 12 points, eight rebounds and three assists in just 17 minutes of action on Sunday.
NC State is back in action on Wednesday, Dec. 9 when Elon comes to Raleigh. Tip-off is set for 7:15 p.m. from Kay Yow Court inside Valvano Arena at Reynolds Coliseum, and the game will be televised nationally on the ACC Network.
